509 active major league baseball player
4000 thousand boxers including 5 world champions
200 college football team were disbanded
Baseball/Women's Baseball
In 1940's only white men were allowed to play, and the games were only allowed during the day time so only fans that lived near the park could come and watch. However after a decade, night games were allowed and became critical and black players were allowed to play and they reshaped Major League Baseball. Also, because of radios and televisions, fans spread all over the country and Baseball became a big part of America. However, before all this happened, the war changed the history of baseball. Since, 509 active major league baseball players went to serve at war, baseball games weren't able to continue, but people wanted to continue it and created a new style of baseball. That new style of baseball was Women's baseball. It was created in 1943 and they called it AAGPBL, All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. It gave around 600 women a chance to play real professional baseball. However in 1954 the teams were not able to operate so they folded the League. It was a big part of baseball history.
Boxing
In boxing, during World War 2, 5 world champions went to serve in the military, so in 1945 boxing only had two world chamionship matches. Also because of that, the boxers who were left could only have non-titled matches and some world championship matches were held for 5years until the world champion came back. No one wanted to have a contract with the players even if they were strong, since they could be sent to war none of the teams wanted to get a contract with them.
College Football
College Football was popular back then like it is now, however in 1945 many players were sent to war and there wasn't enough players to have a team so 200 college football teams were disbanded. Besides the war college football had a big change in the 1940's, that was the change of the rules. That was the free substitution rule, before they could subsitute a player unless they were injured and 11 players had to play all throughout the game but in 1941 they changed that rule and they were able to make substitution and it gave more players have a chance to play in the game.
